Two years ago I was finally finished with a 12 day long labor and snuggling a sweet baby girl in my arms. Recently, we celebrated the day God blessed us with Baby Love by throwing her a “Look Whoo’s Turning Two” owl-themed birthday party. Please forgive the massive amount of pictures, there was just so much I wanted to share with you!
Hopefully, you’ll get a few ideas of your own for your next party. I’ve tried to link to as many of decor items I could in case you were looking for where to get any of them. I’ve also built a special Pinterest Board with things I used and lots more ideas to inspire you.
Alright – so I had to skip right to the cupcake shots. My mom shared this amazing paleo cupcake recipe from CrossFit Pulse with me recently. As you can see, we can’t get enough of them. They are so easy to make (although the icing is a little tricky). You’ll have to try them for your next celebration.
I got the idea for an owl themed birthday party back when I was deciding what to do for Earth Angel’s second birthday party, but as I had just delivered Baby Love, I decided against a party that would take too much work from me, and we opted to go to a local aquarium instead. Since then, I’ve been collecting ideas and waiting for the day I could use the Whoo’s Two owl theme for Baby Love.
What Goes Into an Owl Themed Birthday Party?
When I found the invitations and party decor printables you see above, I knew I had to have them. Emily from Frosting and Ink has a whole printable party set called the Hoot Owl Collection. Don’t you just love those invitation address labels? They wrap around and have your return address on the back. Everything from Frosting and Ink had such neat little details. I just love that. You’ll see more from her collection below.
It was perfect weather, and we all enjoyed much of our party time in the back yard playing. Earth Angel especially enjoyed a rare treat of lemonade – about 10 cups worth I think! The girls got a new yard game called Flickin’ Chicken, and somehow … the chickens became hats!
I found the cutest little outfits for the girls. Baby Love’s dress is from Bonnie Jean. I switched out the long-sleeved turtleneck for a short-sleeved shirt, but I wanted that option in case it was chilly (you never know what kind of weather we’ll have here in Houston in January). Earth Angel ended up only fitting in the top from her outfit by Zutano, but we’ll save the cute skirt for when she’s a little bigger.
And yes… those are owl glasses Jim Dandy is wearing to help Baby Love blow out her candle. I think the adults had as much fun with them as the kids did!
I wanted to show you a little of the “behind the scenes” as we got ready for the party. My mom came down the weekend before and all four of us girls spent one evening printing, cutting and gluing all the cute decor items from Frosting and Ink.
Emily runs such a smooth transaction when you order from her Frosting and Ink Etsy shop. When you order, you include all your personalization information in the comments, and within a few days she sends you an email with a link to download all your files. It’s so simple!
I got the Invitation & Wrap Around Address Labels, her Complete Collection (which includes: cupcake toppers, centerpiece circles, bunting flag banner, welcome sign, water bottle wraps, straw flags, food tents, treat bag toppers, party favor tags, cupcake wraps, and napkin wraps), plus her Thank You Cards & Wrap Around Address Labels, Pin The Eyes on the Owl Game, Coloring Sheet, and Placemats. There are instructions included with your downloads, but everything is done so professionally, it’s very self-explanatory.
I always try to give my girls some kind of keepsake from their party. I’ve done things like photo albums with pictures of the party and notes from guests and a framed picture of the birthday girl that guests signed. This time I needed a new unique idea, so off to Etsy I went. Just look what I found from J&K Art Shop! This is a real “slice” of a tree (my favorite part is how good it SMELLS) that is burned with this awesome tree and owls. Jon and Kim were so great to take what was as wedding guest “book” and personalize it for Baby Love’s birthday. As you can see, it did come with “Owl Love You Forever” burned on it but they changed it to say “Look Whoo’s Turning Two.” It also came with a customize branch pen (with Baby Love’s initials) complete with the cutest little felted owl.
I’m addicted to J&K Art Shop now. Check out these other amazing pieces they offer: peacock fingerprint guest book, racecar toy box, even invitations, right onto birch wood. I’ll definitely be ordering from Jon and Kim again.
In the favor bags we put, a pair of owl glasses, an owl yo-yo, an owl slap bracelet, a sheet of owl stickers and an owl stamp. I also put out many of those items at the craft tables for the kids. They used them to decorate the coloring pages from Frosting and Ink. Above is a shot of Earth Angel and our friend Shiloh, from Whole Family Strong. As you can see, they had a great time getting creative!
Dont you just love the owls and tree removable wall decal I used behind the craft table? I found it here. I also got creative with the backdrop for the gift table, and hung a super-cute owl shower curtain on our front entryway wall.
One of the most special things about Baby Love’s party was that her Gramma and Grampa (Jim Dandy’s parents) got to make the drive down from Kansas to share it with us. What a wonderful blessing it was.
Most of rest of the decor I got from Hobby Lobby. Oh my, don’t go in there hoping to find one or two owls to use! I felt like there was a cute owl I had to have around every corner. We’ll enjoy these little guys for years to come and remember the fun celebration.
We had some amazing Texas BBQ catered to share with our friends and family and sent them each home with some leftovers to enjoy later. The tableware we used can all be ordered as set here.
Our littlest “sister” certainly isn’t a baby any more. It’s strange to think that when her sister was this age I already had a three month old! Their momma yearns a little for those baby days, but oh what fun it is to see Baby Love blossoming into a joyful, adventuresome, young woman of God. What a blessing and incredible responsibility it is to raise those girls.
