The last time we made play dough in this house Baby Love (who is almost 3) was not born yet. But, by some miracle, we still had some left in our fridge (and we play with it at least twice a week). Finally though, today, I decided it was time to replenish our supply and throw out the disgusting little ball of dog-hair-filled blue play dough.
I saw an idea for adding essential oils to play dough to increase the sensory and therapeutic experience. This I had to try.
Our Gramma is visiting us this week, so the girls, Gramma and I went about mixing up this simple recipe, kneading in the oils and food coloring. My hands never smelled so good!
We chose to make three different colors/scents: Valor, mixed in a purple dough; Stress Away, mixed in a green dough; and Joy, mixed in a pink dough. Perfect, right?
Valor is soothing, calming and builds courage. Stress Away, well, takes your stress away (I think this one was more for Momma than the girls)! And Joy is a favorite of almost everyone for its sweet, alluring smell. It always puts a smile on our faces.
After experimenting a bit with how much essential oil is needed (because it was different for different oils, see below), they turned out just great. Nice, soft, smooth dough with relaxing colors and wonderful smells.
If you are interested in ordering these, or any other Young Living Essential Oils, here’s how.
